[comp.lang.c] Book Recommendations Sought

angst%cornu@hub.ucsb.edu (Dave Stein) (03/16/89)

i know this has surely (but don't call me Shirley) been covered before,
so i apologise for the request if it seems out of line...

i am looking for a C book to use in teaching C. the students already
know how to program in at least one other programming language (Pascal,
for most of them), but for most of them, this would be their 2nd or 3rd
programming class, so they do not have a great deal of experience with
programming.

i learned to program in C solely from reading K&R, but most people think
(and i tend to agree with them) that K&R is a bit advanced for the beginner.
i will recommend that they purchase K&R, but i am looking for another book
than they can start with.

i know the traffic in this newsgroup is high to begin with, so please
*email* your suggestions to me. Internet, Bitnet, and UUCP paths are
included in my .signature, and i know they all work...if there is interest
(i.e. if people *email* saying they have interest), i will either send out
the list of suggestions, or if enough people respond, i will summarise to
the net. thanks very much in advance!
