His "The Man in the High Castle" (what would have happened had Germany and Japan won WWII) shows up on quite a few "Best SF" lists (with good reason), and quite a few of his other books use parallel realities as basic plot devices. Sometimes, however, the difference between states of mind and states of reality are (intentionally) not clear, so it might not be to the taste of those who prefer stability in their alternate worlds. Also recommended - "UBIK" and "Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch". -------
