Three quick questions for readers of this newsgroup: 1. There is a book entitled "The Best One Hundred Short Short Science Fiction Stories" that I'm trying to find; unfortunately, I can't remember the anthologizer's name. Does anybody know? 2. There is a series of stories titled something along the lines of "Through Time and Space with Ferdinand Feghoot". Does anybody know where to find these or who wrote them? 3. There is a short story which I read some years ago that I'd like to find; I can't remember the title or the author; however, I do recall that the basic storyline involved a fellow who was captured by aliens involved in an attempt to assess the military strength of the human race. They attached him to a "truth assessor" and he (rather cleverly) managed to answer all their questions without lying, but without telling the truth, either. The one which sticks out in my mind is "How many spaceships do you have?" The reply: "None." (He lived on Mars; all spaceships were owned by Earth.) Does anybody recognize this? Thanks, { decvax, ucbvax }!pur-ee!rsk or above address

I don't know the answer to your other two questions, but the Feghoots, silly short-short stories with an invariably awful pun in the last sentence, were written by Reginald Brentnor or Bretnor. I was not aware that they had been anthologized in any readily- accessible form, though -- there are some small-press anthologies around, but about the only place to find them is at SF conventions. ___________ Tim Maroney duke!unc!tim (USENET) tim.unc@udel-relay (ARPA) The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

1. The Best One Hundred Short Short Science Fiction stories was co-edited by Asimov and Conklin. 2. I think Ferdinand Feghoot stories appear in Fantasy and Science Fiction Magazine. 3. I don't rember the title to this story but it appears in the Randel Garrett Anthology "Takeoff". Mark Biggar

#R:unc:-569200:zinfandel:10800016:000:528 zinfandel!berry Aug 30 08:49:00 1983 Feghoots, VERY short stories ending with an abominable pun, are written mainly by Reginald Bretnor under the pen name "Grendel Briarton", an anagram. They originally appeared in "The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction" while Tony Boucher was editor, but lately have been appearing in "Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine". I believe that some of them have been written by other persons, including Martin Gardner and the Good Doctor himself, but I could be wrong. (Please don't flame if I am incorrect, just tell me so.)
