I'm interested in knowing how far the DEC VAX/VMS C Compiler (for VMS 5.3) is from being ANSI C. DEC doesn't claim that it is an ANSI compiler, but the compiler does have a number of "modern" features. DEC declines to address the question of "how far out" they are from ANSI C and won't address the question of "when will VMS C be ANSI compliant" either. Similarly, Intel iC86 claims to be ANSI (except for some documented non-standard kludges like "far" and "near" to compensate for their hardware) but I'm unconvinced since so many vendors are claiming full ANSI C when in fact they are only maybe 90% ANSI C. Has anyone run into any ANSI C deficiencies in iC86 ??? We'd like to run some kind of test suite across the compilers we're considering using (the above and some others). Since we aren't a compiler vendor it is hard to justify spending a lot of money on developing or purchasing such a thing. Still, we'd like to have something to test with if it is freely distributable or affordable. If you have any information on any of this, please drop me mail and I'll post a short summary of what I hear. Thanks, Ran rja@edison.cho.ge.com
