From: WMartin at Office-3 (Will Martin) I picked up a freebie publication called "The Movie Magazine" a few days ago, which I had never seen before -- it's a collection of reviews and ads, probably a studio-supported advertising gimmick of some kind. Anyway, there was some discussion of the DUNE movie on the last page that I thought SFL readers might find of interest. First off, there is a DUNE fan club address, and this says that sending them your name and address will get you more info in the future: DUNE FAN CLUB 1680 North Vine Suite 900 Hollywood, CA 90028 Info on the movie is sparse, just a column on the production. Some extracts: Science fiction fans...will have to wait until December 1984 to see the epic. Principal photography was completed this past September, but post-production work (special effects and editing) will take a full year. DUNE was shot in Mexico, where cast and crew took over all eight soundstages at Churubusco Studios, plus three backlot sets, two "subsidiary" locations within Mexico City (including the city dump, called by some crew members the "dead dog dump"), and the Salamayuca desert near Juarez. And how will [they] render the blue-within-blue Fremen eyes? By computer -- frame by frame. Creature creator Carlo Rimbaldi (who did the rubber baby aliens in CLOSE ENCOUNTERS and ET himself) is in Los Angeles working on the Guild Navigator and great sandworms. Once DUNE vacates those Churubusco soundstages, CONAN II will move right in... [goes on with some discussion of the Conan show on the Universal Studios Tour]. That's about it... Will Martin
