[comp.lang.c] C compiler/interpreter for MVS

bruiser@wybbs.mi.org (Kevin Williams) (02/19/91)

I'm looking for a C compiler or interpreter for
an MVS environment. I remember using one when
I was in college, but I don't know where it came
from. I think SAS sells a compiler that runs
under MVS, but I'm looking for something a little
less expensive (public domain would be ideal).
I don't need every whiz-bang feature on earth,
just a tool to help convert PL/I to C for porting
to a Unix machine.

Thanks in advance.

The only C compiler on MVS that I am familiar with is IBM's C/370. It in
no way qualifies for "free" or "cheap" to be certain.

LPI (the Liant Group) has a PL/I compiler for the workstation that is easily
the best non-mainframe based compiler available. It can do most of the things
that the (IBM) mainframe compiler can do. For the few things it can't handle,
there are some workarounds. I know that this compiler works on Sun (Sparc)
because I have it. I'm not certain what other platforms are supported.
This could make your porting a LOT easier. Hope the info is helpful.
