I recently got the MS C compiler (version 4.0) and though it claims to produce executables, I've had no such luck. As best as I can determine, it seems I must have an assembler to make the run-time libraries. Is this correct ? If so, I'd sure say the documentation and packaging is miss-leading ! There is no way I'm going to purchase an assembler just for this one task . I have tried to compile the simplist programs but in each case the linker complains (wrong file type or format, I forgot which). I have no such problem if the program lacks I/O but that makes for some pretty useless programs :-^ Must I have an assembler ? If so, do the run-times have to be assembled on my machine (386sx,AMI BIOS, TOPCAT motherboard) or would a copy of someone elses work ? If a copy from someone else would work, then what are the odds of finding a uuencoded version in my email box :-) ? Please email replies, as I do not monitor this group.
