[comp.lang.c] Suggestions on C books

chokchai@mcs.kent.edu (Chokchai Leangsuksun) (06/20/91)

Hello,
I'll be teaching "Programming in C" for this Fall. Most
students, who will take this class, would have pascal background
(prerequisite). So far, I have used "The C programming Lang" by K&R
and "Intro to Programming in C (A Book on C) by Kelley and Pohl.
Now, I'd like to update my teaching materials. Any
suggestions on books, related materials to the class are very
appreciated...

	imho, dump _a book on c_ & keep k&r.

i used both when teaching a similar class. i found that the
kelley & pohl book just confused my students by attempting to
oversimplify concepts; k&r, on the other hand, just "tells it like it
is" & lets the teacher (you) explain any difficulties in understanding.

i much prefer k&r; you might also consider andrew koenig's excellent
	_c traps & pitfalls_ as a supplement to k&r.
