x <-- USENET insecticide This one is "Little, Big" by John Crowley. It won the World Fantasy Award (dunno what year, but copywright '81). The writing is SUPERB LOVELY WONDERFUL DIVINE calm down calm down... The story is a little obscure and most of it went by me, but this has often been my first experience of a really good book. It is about "a family that has a special relationship with fairies". It evokes (perfectly) Skid Row NYC and Avalon, often on the same page. If you dote on Kozmik Darkover Sex or White Dictionary Wielder, this may not be for you. (Gee, have I just alienated a large potential readership from an example of real literature through gratuitous sarcasm? How can I face myself...) The Change Winds will getcha if you don't watch out... Tim Bray ...decvax!microsoft!ubc-vision!mprvaxa!tbray
