Subject: The Standardisation of Modula-2
To: Bernhard Wagner <cgcha!wbwa>

Robert Firth has recently asked about Modula-2 standardisation. The
British Standards Institution's working group on Modula-2 (IST/5/13) is
still very active. It meets every month. There is also an ISO Working
Group (ISO/TC97/SC22/WG13) which had its first meeting last April. The next
meeting of the ISO group is planned for January 1988 in Nice. The BSI and
ISO working groups hope to work together to produce a Modula-2 Standard.

During the last six months, IST/5/13's discussions have not been as
dominated by language issues as they were in the past; most of the current
work is on producing a Formal Definition of the language. Thus, the issue
of the "Problems" document that you refer to (M2WG-N103) is very close to
the version of the language being formalised.

However, IST/5/13 is still interested in comments and I give my latest
set of addresses below which I hope you will find more successful.

IST/5/13 issues a large number of working papers. These are available
either on an individual basis or by subscription from:
Richard Karpinski, 6521 Raymond Street, Oakland, CA 94609; phone:
         (415) 476-4529 or (415) 658-3797. Internet: dick@cca.ucsf.edu
         BITNET: dick@ucsfcca USENET: ...!ucbvax!ucsfcgl!cca.ucsf!dick
or from: Real Time Associates Limited, Canning House, 59 Canning Road,
         Croydon CR0 6QF England; phone: London (01 or +44 1) 656 7333/4/5.

Some of the material is published in "MODUS Quarterly". This is the
journal of "MODUS", the Modula-2 Users Association. It appears 4 times
a year. For MODUS membership, contact: George Symons, MODUS, PO Box 51778,
Palo Alto, CA 94303, USA; phone: (415) 322-0547. Or: Aline Sigrist, MODUS,
ERDIS SA, PO BOx 35, CH 1800 Vevey 2, Switzerland.
