I am trying to get modula 2 on vax 11/750 running unix 4.2 bsd; (soon to be upgraded to unix 4.3 bsd). Can somebody help me ... may be ... telephone number(s) that I can call ...etc.... One is the Hamburg (sp?) compiler which others may be able to provide pointers. The other is the Powell compiler which is available to educational institutions for an 'educational' type price (~$150 if I remember correctly). The Powell compiler does not come with the standard libraries and does not compile the definition modules (it includes them during compilation) and we have fixed a number of bugs. On the up side it does come with libraries which allow access to a number of unix routines and it is easy to add entries to access any unix system call and produces efficient code (according to an article in SIGPLAN conference several years back). The source for the compiler and a pascal to modula translator tool is also included. Powell is either not at DEC WRL any more or is not responsive to queries (at least I have not been able to get a reply).
