Programming assignments in my operating systems course are done in Modula-2, mostly because of its co-routine capability. Most students use our central computing facility, but some prefer to use their own personal computers. Frequently, I am asked to recommend a compiler, but this is an area in which I have very little experience. Any help would be appreciated. Most of the students have IBM compatible machines, but there are a smattering Macs, Atari STs, Amigas, and non-compatible MSDOS machines. Cost is a very important consideration. Debugging tools are also important. Compiler speed and the quality of the code produced are of secondary importance. --Cliff
