Of course the density of the "vacuum" increases closer to the sun.
The sun sprays millions of tons of matter out into space every year.
All sorts of wonderful things from photons to protons (or is electons?)
that light up your local radiation belts for auroas, push your solar
sail around the system, and charge up the ionosphere so you can recieve
radio broadcasts without staning under the antenna.  Sure, its thin,
but it's not emply by a long stretch.
