[comp.lang.modula2] M2 for DEC/RISC + Ultrix

GRANT@LAUCOSC.LAURENTIAN.CA ("Grant R. Guenther") (02/14/90)

A while back I posted a question about the availability of Modula-2 for
DEC's RISC machines under Ultrix. I've now learned that a version of
the MOCKA system from Karlsruhe is available for this machine.

Does anybody have any experience with the MOCKA system ? Does anyone
have an E-mail address for Helmut Emmelmann (his name is given in
the fact sheet that I have received) ?

As a side issue, I notice that this blurb claims that "Modula-2 is
a trademark of Interface Technologies Corporation". I wonder where
they (Digital) got that idea !

Could you send me some of the information you found out about the M2 compiler?
Only do it if you can easily send it through e-mail.

Thanks,
Brian Glaeske

Yes. We have built BirliX using MOCKA.
( BirliX is a distributed operating system
with a UNIX 4.3 emulation, support for checkpointing and some support
to built securable systems on top of it.)
Alltogether it is 200000+ lines of M2, appr. 350 M2 Modules (X.md and X.mi count as one).
We were among the first users and experienced and helped to remove
some "Kinderkrankheiten". But now we are quite happy with it.
A group at TH Darmstadt is about to move BirliX to a i386 based machine
and had to retarget MOCKA first. They did it in appr. 2.5 months.

As far as I know MOCKA is a trademark.

I am very interested in ANY information about Modula2 for DECStations.
Could you please send me a copy of the information you have regarding the
MOCKA system.

Thanks
