In my summary of MPW Modula-2 compilers, I passed on some disparaging comments about MetCom and MacMETH. Since then, a number of people have brought the following facts to my attention: MetCom is just an earlier name for Metrowerks. A lot of people had nice things to say about the Metrowerks compiler, so it must be greatly improved over what was going under the name of MetCom. MacMETH is a version developed for educational use at ETH Zurich (the home of Niklaus Wirth, Modula-2 et al). Not only that, its licensed source code forms the basis of the other compilers as well. It isn't meant to be a commercial product on its own. OK folks, you can stop mailing me now...
