modus@toaster.SFSU.EDU (Modula-2 Users' Association) (08/20/90)
The following two letters were sent to every name in the database maintained by the American Administrator, by First Class mail or International Air Mail. This mailing was done to inform people that their subscription had expired and to obtain a verification of the data in the mailing list database. The second letter was also included in Issue #10 of the MODUS Quarterly publication. If the record of your subscription is maintained by the European Administrator you will not receive these from this recent mailing. If you think you should receive a copy of the recent mailing, it should arrive before the end of August. If by September you have not received the mailing, you should use the application form being sent out in a later posting to let us know we have lost track of you. -------------------------------------------------------------- MODUS P.O. Box 51778 Palo Alto, California USA 94303-0721 10 August 1990 Dear Modula-2 User, Your continued support of the Modula-2 Users' Association is requested. Issue #10 of the MODUS Quarterly is ready and will be published shortly. Our records are a bit confused so this advance mailing is being sent to notify you and to request your patience at undoing the confusion. You received this letter because your name and address ap- peared in the MODUS database. If you do not reply to this letter your name will be dropped from the database. If you paid membership fees and are entitled to a copy of issues 8, 9, 10, or 11, you must reply to this letter to receive them. Please note the mailing label used on this letter. After your name you will find a number within parentheses (some will also find a symbol). All information on the mailing label comes from the MODUS database. The number shows the last issue you received according to the database. The symbol shows how re- cently you paid your membership fees. (an "@" means you paid enough for issues 8, 9, 10 and 11; a "%" means you paid enough for issues 12, 13, 14, and 15) Of the 600+ names in the American database, there are 121 with an "@", and 6 with a "%" symbol. This means it is possible that many members were sent issues 8 and 9 when they had not sent in membership fees covering those issues. It also may be we did not send issues 8 and 9 to some of you who where ex- pecting them. By quickly marking your answers to the following questions and by completing the application on the reverse, you will help us correct the database. If you mark that you are entitled to copies of issues 8 or 9 you will be sent copies. Please Circle Your Answers Last Issue of MQ Received: 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 Last Issue Fees Paid: 3 7 11 15 If no reply is received to this letter, I will assume your da- tabase entry contains an error and the entry will be made inactive. If you received issues 8 and 9, but only paid fees through issue 7, you can help us by marking your application "For issues 10 and 11 only". The need for asking your help with this is predicated on the assumption that many errors crept into the database over the years. Your help with correcting them will make sure you get the MQ issues you are entitled to. Sincerely, Stan Osborne American Administrator -------------------------------------------------------------- MODUS P.O. Box 51778 Palo Alto, California USA 94303-0721 10 August 1990 Dear MODUS Readers, This letter is to provide you with current information about the Modula-2 Users' Association (MODUS). My name is Stan Osborne. I am the new "American Administra- tor" for the Association. Like my predecessors I volunteered for this responsibility. It is my hope that we will be able to publish an issue of MODUS Quarterly every three months. MODUS was formed to provide a forum for communication between all parties interested in the Modula-2 language. The primary function of MODUS is to publish the MODUS Quarterly. If my memory is correct, MODUS has also sponsored two conferences. As many of you are already aware, MODUS has not fulfilled its primary function during the last two years. This is no longer the case. Issue #10 of the MODUS Quarterly is ready and being printed. Work has started on getting material for Issue #11. All past and present members are being notified by mail. Within the next two years the international effort to produce the first Modula-2 standard will be completed. The MODUS Quarterly is one way for you to learn more about the standard and how it affects the future of Modula-2. You can help with reactivating the Association by: o submitting a membership application o sending in letters and articles for publication o telling other Modula-2 users about MODUS My sincere thanks to you in advance for your help with the above. If you have questions, comments, criticisms, or com- plaints about the operation of the Association, please don't hesitate to tell me about them. I am especially interested in suggestions you might have about how any aspect of MODUS can be improved. Sincerely, Stan Osborne American Administrator -------------------------------------------------------------- -- American Administrator Modula-2 User's Association PO Box 51778, Palo Alto, CA 94303-0721, USA Internet: modus@cs.sfsu.edu Usenet: cshub!modus
