In a recent posting Dieter Barnard enquires about M-2 compilers for Data General Aviion systems. These workstations are built around the Motorola 88000 risc chips. There is a standardization organisation 88Open that certifies such systems and software to guarantee binary compatability. This makes 88K systems very attractive, and is a reason why we have bought a couple. Now compilers: At the moment I know EPCs (Edinburgh Portable Compilers) pascal and modula-2 compilers. We have them both. For educational institutions they have reasonable discount schemes. Flame on: Barnard cannot understand why there should be a problem about exporting technology to South Africa. A lot of countries are boycotting SA (well done), that the US (and DG?) is not in the forefront of this does not come as a big surprise to anyone. Ole-Bjorn Tuftedal University of Bergen, Norway.
