                           SECOND INTERNATIONAL
                           MODULA-2 CONFERENCE

                           'MODULA-2 and BEYOND'

                           11-13 September 1991
                   Loughborough University of Technology
                                    UK

                              AIMS and SCOPE

The First International Modula-2 Conference held in October 1989 at Bled,
Yugoslavia, was a major step in the history of the language. By its
tremendous success it demonstrated the benefit of such a forum for the
Modula-2 community. This Second International Conference once again
provides an opportunity for researchers, developers and users of Modula-2
and other modular languages to gather together, exchange ideas and
identify future trends. However, we are acutely aware that we are dealing
with a dynamic, not a static, subject. If the Modula-2 conferences are
not to fossilize they themselves must reflect such changes. Therefore we
have decided that the theme of this second conference will be...

                            'MODULA-2 and BEYOND'

In particular, the progression from Modula-2 to ISO Modula-2 and the
influences of OBERON and Modula-3 are of special significance.

The following list is a general guide to topics for which papers are
solicited, but this does not exclude other, related, topics.

Industrial and commercial applications of Modula-2
     Real-time and real-time embedded systems
     Safety critical applications
     Parallel processing and Multiprocessor applications
     Modula-2 in education
     Object-oriented design and programming
     Development environments
     Debugging environments and tools
     Compilers and compiler development
     Software engineering
     Operating systems
     Modula-2 and formal methods
     Oberon language and system
     Modula-3

                             MODULA-2 WORKSHOP

A one-day pre-conference workshop will take place on Tuesday, 10th
September 1991, entitled MOVING TO MODULA-2. Its purpose is to provide a
broad description of the features of Modula-2 for those working with
Pascal, C and Fortran. It aims to demonstrate the benefits for such users
in changing to Modula-2, and to show how this can be implemented with
minimum disruption.
  ----------------------------------------------------------------
   WORKSHOP PROGRAMME - Provisional
    An overview of Modula-2
    Software engineering benefits
    Concurrency and low-level features
    Real-time embedded systems programming

From Pascal to Modula-2 (parallel session)
From C to Modula-2 (parallel session)
From Fortran to Modula-2 (parallel session)

    Re-using C modules from Modula-2 programs

A review of Modula-2 compilers and development environments
  ----------------------------------------------------------------
Note that separate registration will be required for the workshop.
