[comp.lang.modula2] .MSG format for FidoNet Messages

Chris.Bitzane@f1202.n9130.z1.fidonet.org (Chris Bitzane) (04/17/91)

I am starting a program that will generate an address book from the messages received into an echo - probably good primarily for point systems, but all in all what could be a worthwhile program. I am in need of the .MSG format so that I know where to find the give information and all the intricacies of the origin line and such not. If anyone has this information or knows where I can get it, please let me know. If the project ever gets done I intend to submit it as freeware ala the general scheme of Fido

Net, Opus and the like.

			Thanks for the help,
				Chris

FREQ FTSC-ALL.* from 1:1/20. It contains all of the Fidonet Technical
standards that you'd ever want. (You may be able to find it locally,
too. It's fairly commonly available.)

Hello Jon!

In a msg of <20 Apr 91>, Jon Guthrie writes to Robert Garcia:

JG> If a point tries to get this information from the message itself, he
JG> will find (much to his surprise) that all messages are entered by his
JG> bossnode! That information is filled in by the last mail bundler to

Not exactly.....

JG> process the mail, so it is NOT going to tell you which node originally

                                ^^^ wrong....

 JG> created said message.

JG> The only way to go is to look in the origin line.

Wrong!

The point is coded in the message-file in the message-section:
CHAR(0) 'FMPT ' n the point number of the sender
CHAR(0) 'TOPT' n the point number of the reciever

You can see these codes in many editors, if you set 'view control data on'.

Cu,
  Markus

Thanks Marcus,
This is the second reply I have received and it is also a more complete explaination of how to do this. I apreciate the help and have saved the file into the TopSpeed directory for further viewing and study. Should help a lot getting this program going.
		Heading for the code,

Hector,
Thanks for the code, I am sure it will come in very handy - I will take a good look at it and see what I can do. Any response you get will be with the Top Speed Modula-2 libraries 8^).
Off to see the code wizard,

Well, I'm interested in this code, too, since I am planning to write an message-editor for FIDO. Just when I've finished work on the PURGE-program (something not quite unlike RENUM, but much more comfortable), I will start workin on the editor. Then I would need information on how to evaluate kludge-lines the best.

Robert,
Thank you for the info, but I have been informed that this topic is not considered "Modula-2" oriented, and I can see where it is veering of myself now. I would love to continue this discussion, but I suggest that we do so via netmail or we find a more apropriate echo to finish this in. I post this here because I have been asked to terminate the thread. Therefore, anyone wishing to continue with this discussion please netmail me at the address on the origin line and maybe we can find an apropriat
