Does anybody has work in the Taylor Modula-2 compiler? What you can say me

about it?

(I'm planing to buy it)

Thanks!

At the institute of computer science here in Aachen I've been using Taylor-
Modula-2 (version 3.0 or so). I must say that the shareware Modula-2
compiler FittedModula-2 is a better one! Here are some reasons for my
(own!) opinion:

        * TaylorModula-2 uses built-in keywords (like LVAR, LADR, ...) to
distinguish the small from the large memory model on a PC.
This causes great problems when porting programs to e.g. unix
          machines. FittedModula-2 uses environment variables/compiler
          switches for this.
        * FittedModula-2 is shareware. So you can test it before actually
          paying for it.

I don't know exactly where FittedModula-2 can be found. If you are
interested, I will look it up for you.

So long, Ricki.

Hi RoDoGu..

Allow me to quote the letter you mailed on 11 May 91

I worked with it. I worked also with M2SDS, TopSpeed and StonyBrook. In my
opinion TaylorModula is the best compiler you can buy for the pc. its not
cheap either. it has no environment and no editor (in the version I had).
there is the compiler, a linker and a library manager. the library is very
good. the documentation is VERY good. I think thats all. special questions?
yes, there is a incompatibility in long and short adressing. there are
special keyword no other m2-compiler understands like LVAR, LADR. I think
because they wanted to be very smart with the segmentation system on the pc.
you can tell the taylormodula-compiler in what adress model you want to have
your code: in small, medium and large memory model. do all your stuff in the
large model and you are on the save side, with no LADR, LVAR. it still
produces the smallest and (likely because of that) fastest code.

see ya

Hi

Tayloris Modula-2 *is* great as far as you can live in the DOS environment. It
genereates excellent code (due to more than 15 optimizing switches) and has
OOPS capabilities. It can link with foreign language modules and does include
a source level debugger, a make utility, a librarian, and an execution
profiler. Even an editor is included (although very different in usage
compared to other editors).

Tayloris is now announcing a Windows 3.0 version of this compiler. If this
is gonna be a good product, I'll consider switching to it for the first
Windows environment tools I would use (I don't like MicroSoft and other
Modula-2 for Win since they all require MS WinDevelopers kit).
