[] Alvin Lee????? Surely you jest!!!!! Sure he was fast, but if you listen closely you can hear MANY mistakes. Even in his studio performances!!!!! I lost a lot of respect for old Alvin when I sat down and started learning some Ten Years After songs back in my high school days. Also, his lead work gets very repeatitive after a while. #R:whuxi:-9600:cbneb:16800001:000:328 cbneb!ibh Aug 16 16:14:00 1984 No list is complete without the top two guitarists ever: 1)Jimi Hendrix 2)Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple (I would have him tied with Eric Clapton for second place). Some other names you might consider are Ten Years After guitarists Alvin Lee (I think) and Roger Gallagher(sp) (An Irish guitarists whom I like).

<is there really a line eater?> How about Phil Keaggy? The story goes that many years ago someone asked Jimi Hendrix how it felt to be the greatest guitarist in the world, and he said "I don't know; ask Phil Keaggy". Unfortunately, he records for an evangelical Christian label (Sparrow, I think) and he is almost invariably produced into mush and given very little room to stretch; but I've heard him in concert and he's frightfully good. - Irving Reid (utcsrgv!sask!deview or ihnp4!alberta!sask!deview)
