I had the following curious incident after changing my computer from a 286 to 386. I use Turbo Pascal 5.0, and have a TPU collection of my most used routines which I use as a unit in many of my programs. I ported (among the other files) my TPU unit to my new machine. (I did not recompile it, but ported the old one.) When compiling programs using this unit the following thing happened. When I tried to run the program in the Turbo Pascal environment (ALT-R), the program wanted that there be a disk in drive A. This only took place within the Turbo Pascal environment, not outside it, and I think that the problem has disappeared after I recompiled my TPU unit in 386. No problem anymore, but I am curious why this happened. There still is a serious side to this even if my problem is now solved, because this started me thinking about implications on the portability of precompiled tpu units. ...................................................................
