"Kettle Belly" Baldwin appears in the story "Gulf" written by Heinlein in 1949. The story is collected in "Assignment in Eternity". Interestingly, the story starts out with the same situation as "Friday", but follows a different line, with a male protagonist. By the way, it's interesting to compare Heinlein's handling of female characters (such as the one in "Gulf") with other fiction written at the time. They are often intelligent, independent, competent, aware of "a woman's role" but usually not constrained by it. Pretty heady stuff for it's time; too bad RAH has become "politically incorrect" by continuing in the same vein. Perhaps in a few years, after we pass on to some new controversies ("Terries off Vega!"), it will be OK to appreciate him in public again. -- Keith Lofstrom uucp: {ucbvax,decvax,chico,pur-ee,cbosg,ihnss}!teklabs!vice!keithl CSnet: keithl@tek ARPAnet:keithl.tek@rand-relay
