In order to get high intensity backgrounds, instead of blinking, you have
to change the crt control registers in addition to the "blink bit" of
the Textattr variable. On the PS/2's (and maybe the AT's?) there is a
video bios service to do this. On older systems you have to do a little
twiddling with the video ports. A good reference on this subject is _The
Programmer's Guide to PC and PS/2 Video Subsystems_ by MicroSoft Press.
