To all those who responded to my request for info on the Laguerre method for finding the roots of polynomials, THANKS! Over 20 replies so far, so I haven't been able to answer them all. Most folks recommended "Numerical Recipes" by Press et al. Ordered my very own copy after checking the local bookstores. (All 3. Melbourne is a fairly small town....) :) :) As someone observed here the other day; this net is great.
