danny@neptune.iex.com (Danny Shaw) (11/13/90)

Could someone please help me. I need source for a real time clock simulator.
We don't have ftp access here so if you could mail it or post it I would be
most grateful.

Whats in a sig. anyway?

bobb@vice.ICO.TEK.COM (Bob Beauchaine) (05/31/91)

I just finished reading the June issue of Dr. Dobb's Journal and
saw an article that should be of interest to many of the posters
  in this group.

The focus of the article was on using the AT style CMOS clock
(Motorola MC146818 or equivalent) found in most '286 and up
clones. It seems the real time clock provides performance
advantages for all date and time requests usually routed through
DOS. The author presents Turbo Pascal and Turbo C code to compare
his routines with the standard GetTime / GetDate functions. The
new routines faired quite well, usually allowing 200-300+ % increase
  in execution speed.

In addition, it allows vectoring an iterrupt routine that can be
called 1024 times per second, far better than the 18.2 allowed by
  the system clock.

  Check it out.
