Well, Stevie Ray has been referred to here and there as "America's Greatest
Guitarist", so he has had *some* acclaim. His first album didn't seem to get
very much attention (at least in the Boston area), though he seems to be getting
more with his second album. 'Bout time. You should check out his first album,
too, as well as David Bowie's LET'S DANCE album, which has Stevie Ray on lead.
A live recording of "Flood Down in Texas" from the Montreaux Jazz Festival
appears on an anthology album just released a couple of months ago called BLUES
EXPLOSION (this is a good album for blues fans; it also features, among others,
Koko Taylor and John Hammond).
Catch Stevie Ray live if you can; he'll blow your mind, not to mention
your eardrums.

One more thing to know about Stevie Ray: he's from Austin, Texas.

His big brother is Jimmie Vaughan of the Fabulous Thunderbirds and is also
a phenomenal guitarist, although he is unlikely to become as popular as
Stevie Ray since he and his band play something closer to straight-ahead
Chicago blues. The band also sports the incredible Kim Wilson on harmonica
and vocals; check it out.
