I was reading a very strange article in Discover about Joe Newman's "energy machine" (looks like another perpetual motion machine from what the article has to say about it) and came across a reference to the "International Telsa Society" where he "presented a paper." I was just wondering if someone could tell me what this "Telsa" society is all about. I'm a big fan of the "Journal of Irreproducible Results" and just wanted to add "Telsa" to my list of oddball things to remember. BTW #1: Let's NOT start a big discussion about perpetual motion machines. BTW #2: I'm one of those people whose subscription was transferred to Discover when Science 86 went belly up. What I'd like to know is: Is Discover as flaky as the issues I have gotten for the past couple of months indicate? Science 86 was a wonderful magazine that helped me keep at least slightly abreast in areas of science that I am not expert in with well written thoughtful articles. Discover, on the other hand, in one issue alone has articles on Joe Newman's energy machine, an article titled "Seduced by Virgin Commies" (about people who buy vacuum tubes to build audio amps), and "Are Cats Smart? Yes, at Being Cats." Well, to be honest, there is one line in that cat article I like: "Cats stalk prey because they can't make long runs. This is O.K., because you hardly ever see a herd of mice bounding towards a water hole." ...todd -- Todd Ogasawara, U. of Hawaii Computing Center UUCP: {ihnp4,seismo,ucbvax,dcdwest}!sdcsvax!nosc!uhccux!todd ARPA: uhccux!todd@nosc.MIL INTERNET: todd@uhccux.UHCC.HAWAII.EDU
