Dear Net: Where I work we want to write some programs that produce output in languages other than English. Unfortunately, our output device must be any old ASCII terminal the customer chooses to use. But when ASCII was designed, it seems nobody thought of any language other than English, because ASCII doesn't contain certain diacritical marks used in Swedish, German, etc. Are there any conventions for representing these characters in ASCII? For instance, is A" understood to mean A with an umlaut? Please respond by e-mail. Please hurry!
