Regarding the recent discussion of color perception, there was a fascinating article in the New York Review of Books a couple of issues ago about a 65 year old painter (i.e. artist) who lost his color vision but not his ability to distinguish wavelengths. Although he had been known for his work with vivid color, he couldn't even imagine colors after his accident. The point is that all his physical gear was intact, but the area of the brain that comes up with "color" is elsewhere. Paul Jayne P.S. It was no earlier than November; good reading -- disturbing even.
