In a recent colloquium, the speaker stated that, "light from the center of the sun takes 10 million years to random walk to the surface. He didn't address the redistribution of frequencies that occurs during that time (ie, the core is at 15 million K and must have a different spectrum than the 6000K we see at the surface). This number seems reasonable in retrospect but surprised me at the time. I thought this group might enjoy the bit of "scientific trivia." There is a lot of physics in that number. :-) Aloha, Rick -- Rick Crownover 1-919-684-8279 Duke University Dept. of Physics crown@dukempd.uucp Durham, N.C. 27706 mcnc!duke!dukempd!crown
