[sci.misc] Meier UFO case

In Message-ID: <3197@drivax.UUCP>, MacLeod says:

>The best material I have seen (heard) is the videotaped footage of the

>Having seen all this, I'm still not convinced.

And well you shouldn't be! No single case should convince anyone! But the
massive amount of privately generated evidence convinces even me (a
"believer" from the CSICOP point of view) only beyond a reasonable doubt. I
could still certainly be wrong in my assessment of the real meaning of all
those UFO cases investigated over 40 years time in the U.S., U.K., France,
Germany, Japan, Brazil, etc. And I myself am certainly waiting for the the
crashed saucers with little alien bodies on ice before I will be convinced
beyond a shadow of a doubt. But, as I indicated in an earlier posting,
we're working on that one! Why don't you help us?

Your posting refers to the Eduard "Billy" Meier case. Meier is a Swiss
village caretaker who has allegedly had over 100 sightings including many
photographs and film. He also is receiving "communications" from the folks
piloting the vehicles. The investigator most prominently associated with
this case is Wendelle Stevens, who I believe is currently serving time; yes,
you read me right. Most MUFON-style investigators are highly suspicious of
the Meier case, and not just because of Stevens' current status behind bars.
I am not sure what to make of this case myself since a retired university
professor, whose investigative abilities I respect, is currently
investigating this case and thinks, contrary to "mainstream" believer
investigator opinion, that there may be something to this case. A current
book about this case is Gary Kinder's Light Years (Atlantic Monthly Press,
1987). Kinder is an outsider to the field of ufology. He is not a MUFON or
CUFOS affiliated investigator. He is an independent journalist. There have
been some harsh words published about Kinder and his book in the UFO
believer newsletters quite apart from whatever the Skeptical Inquirer may
have published about him and his book. We are a mean bunch, us believers.
