I propose a new network mail list for chemists entitled Chemtalk. The reason for this new group is based upon my article in J.Chem. Ed,part of which follows. As chemists, dialogue and conversation with other scientisits are essential to stimulating or provoking new ideas. As teachers and researchers, we can find the demands of our profession extensive, which may lead to a reduction in our ability to keep abreast of new data and changes in theories. Sometimes, conversation helps to clarify articles, illuminate new perceptions of theories, and sustain us through our precarious journey in chemistry. The lack of dialogue, with its dynamic exchange of ideas, may lead to academic isolation and chemical ennui. How many of our associates have become nonpro- ductive due to their sense of isolation and lack of knowledge of whom to contact about chemical issues? How many of us are concerned that we may become chemically isolated? A solution to this problem or concern is the creation of efficient communication network using this type of mail list,as well as other forms of communication. See J.Chem.Ed.64,835(1987).
