What are the pros and cons of wearing {hard, soft} contact lenses regularly over a long period? I've worn hard lenses for several years and have never had to change the prescription. However, when I lose a lens it takes a week to get replaced and can cost up to $40. It seems very few contact lens labs deal with hard lenses any more. I'm considering switching to soft lenses for the sake of convenience, but I hesitate to fix something that "ain't broke". I've heard conflicting stories about the effects of soft and hard lenses on the eyes when worn regularly over the course of several years, and would appreciate some definite information.
