[sci.lang] Looking for non-English dictionaries

geoff@desint.UUCP (Geoff Kuenning) (12/30/88)

I am looking for dictionaries similar to /usr/dict/words and /usr/dict/web2,
but for languages other than English. My principal interests are German
and French, but I'm interested in just about everything that can be represented
in an 8-bit character. I'd prefer dictionaries that include information about
non-English characters such as the umlaut, though beggars can't be choosers.

I already tried North America for a German dictionary and came up with nothing,
so now I'm going worldwide.

If you have a dictionary to offer, please contact me by mail and we can make
arrangements to transfer it. My current thought is that I will mail you a
tape, but I will consider mail if you can convince me that the folks on your
side of the lake don't mind paying for their part of the transfer (I talk to
uunet, so that part will come out of my own pocket, shallow though it is).

Also, if you're interested in a dictionary but don't have one, let me know
and I'll let you know what I get. Maybe I can serve as a clearinghouse for
dictionaries.

(By the way, this is partly for the ispell project, so the dictionaries may
wind up being posted if there is enough interest.)
