[sci.math] Looking for finite element analysis pgm

ray@mfgfoc.UUCP (Ray Lillard) (07/22/88)

I am looking for a finite element analysis program which runs
on the Mac-II. I posted this a few weeks ago in comp.sys.mac
and received one response. I tracked that program "Simul"
down to a company in LA which is not being very responsive.

I will take responses by E-mail and post a summary of my search
to the net.

Hi Ray,

I was very surprised to see your osting on the net for a Finite Element
Analysis program. I have a Mac-II and we at the McDonald Obs. at U. T. have
been using an analysis program by McNeal Schwendler of Los Angeles the makers
of MSC NASTRAN. The analysis program for the Mac_II is called MSC-PAL and it is
I guess around $ 1500.00 with academic license. I am right now at home but I c
an send you more details next week. The code has good graphics a reasonable
pre-processor and can do linear statics and some dynamics and some of the ususal
2-D elements are supported. The problem sizes that can be solved on 1MB of memo
ry
are not very large but we have found it very useful for simple analysis and the
turn around time for analysis is quite impressive! Hoping to hear from you
about other programs you have heard of. By the way MSC-PAL supports colour
