[sci.math] mathematical diagrams in tex

ms361@leah.Albany.Edu (Mark Steinberger) (11/30/89)

Has anyone out there investigated the question of setting complicated
mathematical diagrams in tex? It's reasonably frequent in writing
mathematics that one wants to be able to place curved arrows into
a diagram. The most obvious example is for a split short exact sequence.

But other types of diagrams also require curved arrows. For instance,
braid diagrams are quite common in some types of algebra and topology.

Now this must have been faced in one way or another by the AMS, as,
if I'm not mistaken, the AMS journals are set in tex. Do they have fonts
that are not accessible to the general public, or are graphics imported
from a graphics package of some kind?

Is anything known about this question by people either in or out of the
AMS?

Sincerely,

Mark Steinberger
