[sci.physics] Do you have a space-time question?

zdenek@heathcliff.columbia.edu (Zdenek Radouch) (11/19/86)

The number of questions about FTL/Special Relativity/General relativity/
and related subjects doesn't seem to decrease so let me make a suggestion.

Do you want to ask a question about one of the above? Do you not understand
the twin paradox, space elevator, scissors, space ships travelling at c, etc.?
There is an excellent book you should read first. I don't know if it's still
in print but it is well worth looking for.

"Spacetime Physics" by Taylor and Wheeler
(1963,1966 W.H.Freeman and Company, New York)

I believe the book was originaly designed as a textbook for freshman classes
and uses minimum amount of calculus (so you don't even have the usual excuse).
As far as I can remember the book answers almost all (if not all) of the
questions about relativity ever asked on the net. And in the case you are not
convinced just by the the name of J.A. Wheeler, I can assure you that you will
find it [if nothing else] interesting and entertaining.
