[sci.astro] Yale Catalog of Bright Stars -- reposting

tslu@oliveb.UUCP (Shang Lu) (10/31/86)

    Due to the number of responses and e-mails I received but could
not return the mail according to the net address, I am reposting the
availability of this reduced version of YALE CATALOG OF BRIGHT STARS.

    I downloaded a reduced version of the YALE CATALOG OF BRIGHT STARS
from the network about an year ago. It is a computer readable list of
data for some 9000 bright stars. The original catalog contains huge
amount of data of each star so the total data amounts to about 3
Megabytes, it is reduced to about 300 kbytes of useful information.

    The data for each star of the reduced version is :

	* Right Ascension (epoch 2000.0)
	* Declination (epoch 2000.0)
	* Visual Magnitude
	* Color
	* Annual Proper Motion in Right Ascension
	* Annual Proper Motion in Declination

     It should be fairly easy to write some simple software with this data
base yet produce lots of interesting results, or you can use this as inputs for
existing graphic software. The data is public domain and I have it on floppy
disk (MS-DOS format for IBM PC), if anyone is interested please write to
264 N. Whisman # 16, Mt View, CA 94043, I'll make you a copy for $5 to
cover my cost.
