I have prepared 17 new gif images for ftp. They are located at the old site iris1.ucis.dal.ca and note that login restrictions apply until after 5 pm local time. The 17 images have the names 90Hxxx.gif,doradus.gif,ngc1068.gif, ngc7457.gif,orion1.gif,orion2.gif,pluto.gif,raquarii.gif and saturn.gif. These are scanned images from black and white publicity photographs which are being provided by Charles Redmond at NASA HQ. I am also making some arrangements to start converting color 35mm slides to gif images. A couple of the 90Hxxx.gif images are sideways, a launch to the left and landing up. I did not want to crop those images since I lost some of the shuttle in landing when scanned sideways. The files are non standard sizes, not 640X480 but up to 500X750. Refinements are in the works. I will also be making a gif image of Saturn removed from the CD ROM set of images next week. I have been trying to write a program which can decompress a disk image to FITS format and then convert it to GIF. I can't find a copy of PBMPLUS implemented anywhere on a PC. If anyone knows, it would be nice to know where. The problem is the conversion, not the decompression. I aslso have some COBE images in color, but they do not scan well, so I will try to get them done in color by a professional outfit. Availability is up to someone else. Note please, that unlike during the summer, I do not have the time to mail disks to people who can't ftp them.
