Last night I completed downloading about 38 new gif images from Peter Yee. These images are from the Voyager CD Rom Collection. I picked a sample of each of the major satellites and the planet itself. The images have the names CXXXXXXX.gif . There is also a single image if Saturn in this set which was done as a test. It has the same name format. These images are all 800X800X256 greyscale. The average about 300K in size. I am pleased with the conversions that Peter was able to do. The images are fairly flat in contrast, so I will be enhancing each image to bring out the interesting features. The companion image will have the same file name as the original, but will have the form MXXXXXXX.gif . This should give everyone an idea of what a raw picture, and some fundamental processing can do. The images are available from iris1.ucis.dal.ca by anon ftp . Note that there are restricted hours from 5pm EST to 6am EST so that the university can use the machine :-} too. The images that Greg mentioned are also available via anonymous ftp to ames.arc.nasa.gov. Directory is /pub/SPACE/GIF. All files are named cXXXXXXXX.gif. These are GIF conversions of files that Greg sent me in a compressed format that can be extracted to FITS format. I used to pbmplus to convert to GIF (had to hack around a colors problem in ppmtogif). The images could use some brightening in some cases. Access to ames is available 24 hours a day. -Peter Yee yee@ames.arc.nasa.gov ames!yee
