This kind of NASA vs DoD thinking is another of the reasons that the US space program is in shambles while the Soviets continue to make progress. They don't waste endless years in turf battles nor do they waste billions in redundant developments. Civilian and military share their space resources. It will take years to build the kind of trust and support organizations that are needed for commercial, military, and NASA groups to work together. They have been at each others throats for years. But we have to start someday. Face it. NASA will never eliminate DoD from a presence in space. If all the efforts that are wasted in this fuitless infighting had been devoted to establishing a productive form of ``peaceful coexistance'' we would be in much better shape today. There are many space missions where DoD would be willing to accept a customer vendor relationship that would reduce waste and encourage more space exploration. They have similar working relationships with many commercial firms. A lot of damage has been done, but shouldn't we try to work together for a change?
