The order in which the books were written is not necessarily the correct
order to read them in. In the chronology of the world depicted, the order
is:
Escape Velocity
The Warlock In Spite of Himself
King Kobold
and King Kobold Revived
[The second is a major rewrite of the first, not guaranteed to be
upward compatible from it; the author's forward suggests that it
should be considered to supercede the first. I list both here for
completeness.]

The Warlock Unlocked
Actually, I wouldn't swear to the ordering of the last two.
I'm not saying that the order of the internal chronology is necessarily the
right order to read the books in either, but I thought both should be
presented.
Now, my personal preference would be to read TWiSoH, KKR, EV, AWiB, TWU.
Escape Velocity takes place long before all the other books, and explains
some of the background. Since the background is something of a mystery
in the rest of the books, I find it more fun not to read EV first.
