[net.sf-lovers] Fredrick Pohl's "Gateway"

naiman@pegasus.UUCP (Ephrayim J. Naiman) (08/23/84)

Does anybody know if there was any sequel to "Gateway" ?
If so, please mail the title to me.

Did anybody else like that book as much as I did ?
I thought he set up a really interesting civilization.
On par with Asimov's civilization in "The God's Themselves".

Yes, there is a sequal to "Gateway" by Fredrick Pohl. It
is entitled "Beyond the Blue Event Horizon."

And yes, enough people liked "Gateway" for it to win the Hugo award for
best SF novel that year. Unfortunately, BtBEH is not nearly so good.
There is suposed to be a third (and final?) book in the series (I forget
if I heard the title) and I got the impression that it should be out
soon (i.e., soon when I heard about it - so I would have expected it to
be out now), but I have heard no more since then.

Try "Beyond the Blue Event Horizon". Excellent sequel to "Gateway". There may
be a third in this series.

The sequel to "Gateway" is called "Beyond the Blue Event Horizon". I saw
that title first, and then found "Gateway". Lovely title, isn't it?

Would you believe two sequels. First off, there's "Beyond the Blue Event
Horizon", and secondly, there's "Heechee Rendezvous".

Well, here's my chance to be the first [by my viewpoint; probably 10th
by yours. Don't you love net relativity :-)] to answer your question.

Not only is there a sequel to "Gateway", there is not a sequel to that.
"Beyond the Blue Event Horizon" it the sequel to "Gateway". I thought
that it was superb, perhaps even as good as "Gateway". The third
book in the sequence was "Heechee Rendezvous". "Beyond the Blue Event
Horizon" has been out for long enough that it should be available in
paperback by now. "Heechee Rendezvous" came out relatively and may not
be in paperback yet.

Which civilization are you refering to? I didn't find the human
civilization to be all that interesting. The Heechee are tantalizing . . .
but you know nothing about them.

Once you meet the Heechee you may be much less impressed.
