[hurv ......@ !!!!] George Alec Effinger is a wonderful, if slightly odd, writer. Actually a lot of his work isn't really SF, but this excerpt is from Fantasy & Science Fiction, October 84. And it discusses the only aspect of relationships never covered in net.singles: sex as bowling! [Luis is the U.S. secretary of defense. Hurv is a nuhp, a race of friendly but somewhat overbearing aliens.] Hurv: Bowling is the most enjoyable thing a person can do. Luis: What about sex? Hurv: Bowling *is* sex. Bowling is a symbolic form of intercourse, except you don't have to bother about the feelings of some other person. Bowling is sex without guilt. Bowling is what people have wanted down through all the millenia: sex without the slightest responsibility. It's the very distillation of the essence of sex. Bowling is sex without fear and shame. Luis: Bowling is sex without pleasure. [There was a brief silence.] Hurv: You mean that when you put that ball right into the pocket and see those pins explode right off the alley, you don't have an orgasm? Luis: Nope. Hurv: *That's* your problem, then. I can't help you there, you'll have to see some kind of therapist. -- Bill Kelly {allegra, ihnp4, seismo}!uwvax!uwmacc!bllklly 1210 West Dayton St/U Wisconsin Madison/Mad WI 53706 "You've got the wrong man.
