To those of you who bought TurboTax for your PC and got the 'Head Start' edition and have been waiting for the final version to arrive in the mail: My 'final version' (7.01) arrived yesterday. When I tried to install it it would not work. I was getting messages telling me I was installing the incorrect disks. I tried calling ChipSoft, but the support AND sales #s are busy 24 hours a day! I finally got onto their BBS and after 30 minutes of paging the SYSOP (who *was* online) was told that I received the wrong upgrade kit. Before I paged, I skimmed through the messages to see if anyone else had this problem. All I could find were messages blasting ChipSoft beause NOONE can get through on the telephone! People wer complaining because their final version hadn't arrived yet and they couldn't get through on the phone. Also, people who bought the final version at a store couldn't get it to work properly and couldn't get through on the phone! As a note, all I told the sysop was that my final version would not install due to "incorrect disk" message. He told me it was 1 of 3 things (2 disks were same, 2 disks were mislabelled, or wrong kit), so it seems to me they did a royal boo-boo and they know about it! As it ends up, the sysop was helpful and promised to set out a correct upgrade kit 'asap.' If you are still waiting for your upgrade (which I doubt -- by now they're all out), beware that it just might not work and prepare for many hours of trying to get through on the phone! -- Tom Bellucco - moscom!tmb@cs.rochester.edu or {...}!rochester!moscom!tmb ------------------------------------- "Whatever I said, I didn't mean it...unless, of course, you liked it!" #include <std.disclaimer>

The installation instructions are a little hokey, but after figuring out the "install.exe" program was not on disk #1, it worked (the install) correctly. There was one tense moment when one disk gave the dreaded "data error" message, but a retry worked (or at least my use of TT doesn't use any of the "lost" data 8-). Just remember you have to run the "update" program on your "headstart" data files before this version can read them. Also, read the "readme" file (even though some of the page numbers of off). -- Marc Ries ries@venice.sedd.trw.com (ARPA) somewhere!trwind!venice!ries (UUCP) #include <std.disclaimer>

The disk labelled FORMS should be labelled HELP, and vice-versa. When it says you've got the wrong one, try the other. -- --- Clarence A Dold - dold@tsmiti.Convergent.COM (408) 435-5293 ...pyramid!ctnews!tsmiti!dold FAX (408) 435-3105 P.O.Box 6685, San Jose, CA 95150-6685 MS#10-007
