As promised, when we heard additional information from Everex about this new password that could be set on booting the machine, I would pass it along. I now have received such news. Everex has moved this problem to their educational unit who agrees that the current arrangement is NOT acceptable. Everex is working with AMI to rewrite the BIOS chips and we should get new BIOS chips for our new machines within a couple of weeks. Everex has now also realized that they will have to offer a different option to all their customers who allow sharing of computers, and this should hence be availble to all customers (including those industrial customers who wrote to me also objecting to the password on boot up). In any case, thanks to all who wrote regarding the problem. The power of the net continues to impress me! BTW, Everex should be changing the design to match that of other computer companies - i.e.: allow password always, never, or only to protect the setup. Lou Anschuetz temngt23@ysu.edu
