I need information, preferably in the form of journal references or addresses to write to. My doctor recommends a series of intravenous Vitamin C treatments (50-60 gms each treatment) as a treatment for Epstein Barr virus. I recall seeing an article in Prevention many years ago, discussing this treatment for infectious mononucleosis (same virus - EBV is a retrovirus in the herpes family, and in some people it keeps coming back). This is not the first time this doctor has recommended a "non-mainstream" treatment, and often his treatments have worked. However, before I'm willing to try something this invasive, I want to find out for myself what is known about it, who's had experience with it, success rates, possible side effects, etc. UCSD Medical Library's online search didn't turn up anything useful (although that may be due to my lack of experience using the software). One pointer I have is an organization supposedly called "AAMPS", which I believe stands for American Association for Medical Preventics or some such. I say supposedly, because they are supposed to be in the Santa Monica/West Los Angeles area, and directory assistance couldn't find a listing for them. The other pointer I have is that a "Dr. Cathcart" is involved in this work - also no luck finding references. Any useful pointers would be appreciated! adTHANKSvance...
