Some very dear to me has had anorexia nervosa for going on ten years now. I thought she had reached some kind of equilibrium and would probably stay there for the rest of her life. Recently, however, she had a serious scare that convinced her she had to do something to get better, so she enrolled herself in the Eating Disorder Unit of the Benjamin Rush Center in Syracuse, New York. She's been there for about a month and seems happy with the place. Can anyone out there tell me about anorexia nervosa? I'm familiar with the physical side of it, but what are the mental aspects, which I understand to be the root of the problem? What approach do these clinics take and how effective are they? What is the recovery rate from anorexia nervosa? Does anyone ever become totally "cured"? Are there any good references on the subject? Any information would be welcome. Thanks in advance.
