Our local community newspaper (in Mission Viejo, CA) contained a letter to the editor which referred to a '60 Minutes' program broadcast on Feb 26. It referred to pesticide residues, especially Daminozide, in fruit. The claim was made was that the 'cancer risk is actually 250 greater than the level recommended by the EPA'. The writer also claimed that Consumer's Union had analyzed 32 apple products and found 2/3 had residues of this pesticide with only 9 below the allowable level. Also mentioned was the chemical Benemyl, another carcinogen. This was said to be used on bananas. The writer said that out of 50-60 billion pounds of bananas over an eight year period, the EPA tested only two bananas! Also mentioned was that pesticides banned in the US are shipped to Mexico and used on food that is sold in the US. Interesting, huh? One begins to wonder just what the truth really is, and how significant it is. The author of this letter is the local rep of the 'Natural Health Education Council'. Does anyone know anything about this organization? ---Steve Colburn {oliveb, trwrb, hplabs}!felix!colburn
